It’s Christmastime in the City

There is no question that Plymouth is the embodiment of Americana. It’s known to be one of the best places in the country to live, work and raise a family.  It’s considered to be an affluent community.

Classic Christmastime here is very much alive this year, not just in the downtown area but in the old neighborhood streets lined with decorations and wreaths. Plymouth is no doubt the Bedford Falls of Hollywood’s classic film, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

However, believe it or not, beneath the glitter and tinsel and prosperity there are people here very much in need of help, shelter, food and clothing.

One charitable organization that shines every year is the Salvation Army.

This year more than ever, the Salvation Army needs your help. In recent years they have been pushed-out by many local businesses and woke chain stores that worry about negative impact and no longer associate with Christmas celebrations and Christianity, and will not allow bell ringers on their property to carry on the 135-year-old tradition to help those in need who might otherwise be forgotten.

All over the world Bell Ringers of all ages and backgrounds continue to brave the cold and the crowds at Christmastime, united in their resolve to help the less fortunate.

In the spirit of Christmas players from the Plymouth Reign Soccer Club (2015 Boys White Team) recently volunteered as bell ringers for the Salvation Army. Stationed at Penniman and Main  St. the young players learned first-hand about caring and helping others and those in need.

We ask you, our loyal readers, to please open your hearts, wallets and pocketbooks and think about those who desperately need help and our living right in your backyard.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a joyous new year.
