Canton Police nab 7 in vehicle theft-ring bust

Canton Police Department reports seven individuals were arraigned yesterday following their arrest Tuesday, Aug. 15. on charges in connection with theft of 16 Ford Bronco Raptors.

The young adults, ages 19 to 21, arraigned in the 35th District Court in Plymouth before Chief Judge James Plakas are facing multiple felony charges following a comprehensive investigation by Canton’s Special Operations Group that began in Oct. 2022.

Police officers from Canton, Northville Township, Novi, Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield and deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the arrest of the seven suspects.

The investigation commenced last year after reports of multiple vehicle thefts from a Ford Motor Company factory lot located in Canton Township. The high-end SUVs valued at $1,760,000, list for $110,000 each.

Canton Police stated the investigation resulted in the recovery of 10 of the stolen vehicles that were located in Northville, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Texas, Arizona and Alaska. Authorities said other related Bronco thefts were discovered to have occurred in Dearborn and Woodhaven. Five additional stolen vehicles not Bronco’s, plus one AR pistol, and $28,426 of suspected cash proceeds from the sale stolen vehicles were also recovered, according to a police department press release.

“We applaud the outstanding efforts of our police officers and partners in ensuring community safety,” Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh said. “Their dedication and collaborative investigations underscore our commitment to our citizens. Our sincere appreciation goes to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office and our policing partners for their unwavering commitment to service.”

The next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 25, 2023 in Plymouth.

 

Migel Santiago, 19, of Troy, is charged with:

  • One count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony
  • Nine counts of receiving and concealing stolen property $20,000 or more, a 10-year felony
  • Bond was set at $100,000 (10%) with home confinement tether

 

 

Oliaran Pernell, 20, of Detroit, is charged with:

  • One count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony
  • Ten counts of receiving and concealing stolen property $20,000 or more, a 10-year felony
  • Bond set at $100,000 (10%) with home confinement tether

 

 

Samir Rashed, 21, of Northville, is charged with:

  • One count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony
  • Nine counts of receiving and concealing stolen property $20,000 or more, a 10-year felony
  • Bond set at $100,000 (10%) with home confinement tether

 

 

Julian Lyles, 19, of Detroit, is charged with:

  • One count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony
  • Eight counts of receiving and concealing stolen property $20,000 or more, a 10-year felony
  • Bond set at $100,000 (10%) with home confinement tether

 

 

Dominick Dumont, 19, of Northville, is charged with:

  • One count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony
  • One count of receiving and concealing stolen property $20,000 or more, a 10-year felony
  • Bond set at $50,000 with home confinement tether

 

 

Abdulfattah Hamed, 21, of Van Buren, is charged with:

  • One count of receiving and concealing stolen property $20,000 or more, a 10-year felony
  • Bond set at $10,000 (10%) with GPS tether

 

 

 

Janisse Moss, 19, of Lincoln Park, is charged with:

  • One count of conducting a criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony
  • Ten counts of receiving and concealing stolen property $20,000 or more, a 10-year felony
  • Bond set at $1 million, with GPS tether
