Michigan State Police say a man was seriously injured Monday night on M-14 after he reportedly fell asleep in his vehicle. Police report the driver was driving too fast for conditions on the eastbound service ramp to southbound I-275 when he spun sideways striking a parked Plymouth Township Police car. The officer in the police car was not hurt.

According to the MSP, the township patrol vehicle was parked on the left shoulder behind a traffic crash that had previously occurred and had its emergency lights activated. The two-car crash occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. when the driver of a Pontiac Grand Am entered the ramp,  lost consciousness and crashed. The drive was pinned in the vehicle and sustained head injuries.

MSP reported the driver was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and told police he had just left work and fell asleep.

State Police continue to investigate.
