Canton Township has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The award recognizes the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) prepared for the township and is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government, according to a prepared release from the township.

This is the 26th consecutive year that Canton has been recognized for outstanding financial reporting. An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the Canton Finance and Budget Department, specifically, as that group is primarily responsible for the preparing the award-winning CAFR.

“I’m proud to be part of an organization that puts such emphasis on proper processes,” said Wendy Trumbull, Canton director of finance and budget. “We couldn’t have achieved this award without the support of our board of trustees or the hard work put forth by our great finance team. They dedicate a significant amount of time and effort to ensure proper financial reporting.”

Township Supervisor Pat Williams agreed, noting, “I am so proud of the continued high level of achievement exhibited by all Canton employees, but in particular our finance department and their commitment to providing financial stability, accuracy and transparency year-in and year- out.”

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
