The Canton-Plymouth Mettetal Airport will host an open house from 10 a.m. until 3p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. Located at 8550 N. Lilley Road at Joy Road, the general aviation field is now operated by the Michigan Department of Transportation.

There will be displays, vintage aircraft and vendors. For novice flyers, discovery flights will be available along with helicopter rides. The airport has had considerable updates and additional hangers are being added.

The Experimental Aircraft Association #113 will present their educational programs for young aviators. Rare model aircraft and radio controlled hobby jets will also be showcased.

Mettetal Airport was started by Ralph Mettetal in 1939 as a grass strip. Today, the facility averages 85 take-offs and landings per day and has strict noise abatement procedures.
