UPDATED STORM INFORMATION

Arctic cold front that caused temperatures to plummet drop more than 50 degrees in some areas on Thursday is crashing through with high winds and blizzard conditions.

The Arctic blast is restricting travel during the busiest week of the year.

Local officials urged travelers to use caution and be prepared with a full tank of gas, and supplies such as blankets, water, food and first aid kits.

Plymouth Canton Community Schools announced closing Thursday afternoon.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4:00 a.m. Saturday for the southeast Michigan counties of Livingston-Oakland-Macomb-Washtenaw-Wayne-Lenawee-Monroe and others. The National Weather service reports strong winds may bring down tree branches and cause scattered power outages with cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero. Yesterday, DTE Energy warned area customers of impending power outages with emailed bulletins and messages saying, “…all 10,000 DTE employees stand ready to help.”
