Compost/yard waste curbside pickup will begin on April 5 in the City of Plymouth.

Compost must be placed in a brown Kraft lawn refuse bag or a can marked for compost, officials said.  Compost can may be marked with an “X” or identified with a “compost” sticker available at the Municipal Services office, located at 1231 Goldsmith. Compost includes grass clippings, leaves, branches, and yard debris but does not include sod, dirt, rocks, dog excrement, or potted plants.

To ensure pickup, residents are advised to place compost bags and/or cans designated for compost as close to the curb or roadside as possible. The cans should be placed so that there is 3 feet of clearance from parked cars, mailboxes, other carts, and other street hazards or amenities, officials said. They cautioned that residents should ensure the lid can close – overfilled carts may be too heavy or may lose contents when serviced.

Residents whose compost collection was missed, can call (734) 453-7737 ext. 0.  Complete information about Plymouth solid waste service is available at www.plymouthmi.gov.
