A community outreach effort supporting students and teachers returning to school in September is already under way.

According to Laurie Aren, director of family and community ministries at The Salvation Army, organizers are hoping to revamp the Back 2 School effort this year to ensure enough help for students in Belleville, Canton Township, Northville and Plymouth.

“The need is great,” Aren said.

She said classroom needs this year include No. 2 pencils, large sizes of hand sanitizer, Kleenex, scissors, glue sticks and glue bottles, wide-ruled loose leaf paper and other items.
Students need pocket folders, backpacks, one, three and five subject note-books, compasses and protractors, yellow highlighters, supply boxes and bags, and blue and black pens, among other items.

Aren said that gently used clothing of all sizes, adults and children are also being accepted for the Plymouth Canton Community Schools Clothing Bank.

All donations will be accepted from Aug. 1-31 at The Salvation Army, 9451 S. Main St. in Plymouth.

For more information, contact Aren at (734) 453-5464 or by email at Laurie_aren@usc.calvationarmy.org.
