Canton Township recently celebrated the grand re-opening of the playscape at the North Pavilion of Heritage Park.

Canton Supervisor Pat Williams and members of the Canton Board of Trustees were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the recently remodeled playground, located adjacent to the Canton Administrative Building at 1150 S. Canton Center Road.

Recent playground upgrades included the installation of a “We-Go- Round,” which is a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round where children of all abilities can spin together. This amenity can be spun from the inside or outside, allowing everyone to participate in the fun. Funding for this project was made possible by a federal Community Development Block Grant.

“We are pleased to bring another accessible playground feature to Heritage Park that will be fun for all children, regardless of their abilities,” said Brad Sharp, Canton Facilities Services manager. “By installing these types of accessible playground features, we continue to address the diverse development and recreational needs of children in our community.”

In addition, the entire area surrounding the playground equipment has been replaced with soft fall surfacing, a rubber material that provides safer playing conditions underneath all of the slides and climbing amenities. These new features have been installed next to the existing accessible musical playground to create a modernized and inclusive playground area in Heritage Park for all ages to enjoy, a spokesman noted.

Those visiting Heritage Park from through Aug. 31 can enter for a chance to win 18 holes of golf for two at Pheasant Run Golf Club just by snapping a selfie next to the We-Go-Round and posting it on Facebook using the hashtag: #CantonOutdoorFun. Remember to tag Canton Leisure Services for a chance to snap, post, and win the prize valued at approximately $100. The winner will be notified by Wednesday, Sept. 2, on Facebook @CantonLeisureServices.
