Two fatal car crashes on M14 and Sheldon Road in 48 hours in Plymouth Township closed M-14 and jammed area roads this week.

Michigan State Police reported westbound M-14 was closed on Tuesday morning, June 5, after a driver was pinned under a semi-truck. The accident occurred at 6:30 a.m. and remained under investigation at press time. Officers said the preliminary findings indicated that the driver of a homemade kit car lost control and spun under the semi-truck. The driver was killed instantly, according to state police reports.

“The driver was wearing a seatbelt and speed was a factor in the crash,” according to official reports.

That deceased driver had not been identified at press time.

Another fatal accident occurred at 2:05 Sunday morning, June 3, in the same area involving a single vehicle rollover. Troopers said when they arrived on the scene, they found a single vehicle on fire with a lone occupant who was deceased.

Plymouth Township Fire Department was called to the scene to extinguish the vehicle fire.

Westbound M-14 was closed at Sheldon Road and at I-275 for several hours Tuesday as the investigation continued.
