Art in the Park returns for its 34th year

More than 400 artists from 32 states around the country and some 100,000 patrons will flock to downtown Plymouth for the 34th Annual Art In The Park on July 12, 13, and 14, 2013. The event welcomes 75 new artists this year and promises a surprise at every turn. One of the oldest and largest art events in Michigan, Art In The Park creates a sensory filled weekend experience for all ages, featuring live entertainment, interactive displays, children’s activities and a variety of cuisine. Setting the bar for variety, quality, and originality, Art In The Park artists will showcase a variety of art, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass, fiber and fashion, wood, photography, mixed media and more. Art In The Park is considered by artists, and fairgoers to be a must-see event, and Plymouth, with its wide range of restaurants and retailers and the ever popular, Kellogg Park, provides the perfect backdrop.

New Exhibits to Art In The Park:

• Celebrating barbeque season, MorningStar Farms® is traveling the country serving up delicious and good-for-you veggie burgers during the “Feel Good Grilling” tour. From Napa, Calif. to Boston, Mass., the tour will make a stop at Art In The Park and will feature three grilling favorites: the Spicy Black Bean Burger, Grillers Prime and the new Mediterranean Chickpea Veggie Burger. To inspire summer burger recipes, Chef John Korycki, of Kalamazoo’s Zazios Restaurant will demonstrate gourmet creations featuring MorningStar Farms burgers. Free samples of their mouthwatering recipes can be found in Kellogg Park.

• The Michigan G Gauge Operations Club (MGGOC,) a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about indoor and outdoor model trains and railroads, will be rolling into Plymouth for the weekend. MGGOC is dedicated to educating the public about railroad history and operations and will be showcasing their portable modular railway in Kellogg Park.

• The “Duck Tape® Rolls Across America Tour.” A fun, interactive experience, this display is housed in a 31-foot, bright green “Duck Bus” – that allows Duck Tape enthusiasts to see the latest and greatest from this product. Fairgoers will be invited to make a craft item using Duck Tape, see one-of-a-kind Duck Tape outfits, including one from the “Project Runway” – Duck Tape Unconventional Materials Challenge, and photo ops to snap the perfect memento. Find the display on South Main Street at the corner of Wing.

Additional Highlights of Art In The Park will include:  

• My Adventure Theater returns to Art In The Park providing an interactive family-friendly theater experience for the entire family.  Characters are chosen from the audience, costumed on the spot and narrated through action-filled, laugh-packed adventures complete with songs and dancing. Check them out in Kellogg Park.

• The popular children’s mural will return all weekend in Kellogg Park. Children of all ages are invited to come and make their artistic mark on this interactive canvas mural. Following the event, the mural will be donated back to St John Providence Park Hospital in Novi.

• Local artist Erin Dillenbeck and D & M Art Studio, will be back creating a chalk art masterpiece at the intersection of Main and Penniman. The street art demonstration will be sketched with chalk onto the pavement and will be a work in progress all weekend.

• Kristen Dillenbeck-Anderson of New York City, formerly of Canton will once again be onsite creating a living art mural.  Anderson has demonstrated her living mural as well as just body painting at many different shows in New York, and Michigan.  This will be her 4th year at Art In The Park.  Incorporating canvas, paint & live human figures, the 3-dimensional mural is bound to turn heads throughout the weekend.  The living art mural will be on display on the intersection of Main and Ann Arbor Trail.

• Authentic reggae music at its best, One Love returns to Art In The Park this year with performances at the corner of Ann Arbor Trail and Forest Avenue.
• Free food samples from Slurpee, Morning Star Farms, and Kings Hawaiian Rolls
• My Adventure Theater
• An assortment of Kid’s Activities and Entertainment
• Children artists ranging from 7 to 17 selling their very own art wares

• Friday, July 12th: 11:00 am – 8pm
• Saturday, July 13th: 10am – 7pm
• Sunday, July 14th: 10am – 5pm

Free Shuttle Service Visitors coming to Art in the Park are encouraged to park at the ACH Plant located at 14425 Sheldon Road, just off of M-14 in Plymouth and take the free round trip shuttle service. The shuttle will run continuously all weekend. The drop off point will be Plymouth City Hall conveniently located at the start of the art fair.
