Construction is underway for a new banking center in Plymouth Township.

Monroe Bank & Trust is set to open this spring on Ann Arbor Road between Haggerty and Lilley Roads, next to the Grand Traverse Pie Company. The contractor is Sachse Construction of Detroit whose diverse portfolio includes retail, restaurants, airports, and office, industrial and educational projects.

The 4,200 sq. foot facility will join 20 other full-service branches and three lending and wealth offices in Michigan, according to a news release.

Monroe Bank & Trust has an existing office in Plymouth that will close once the new branch on Ann Arbor Road opens. A company spokesperson said they have outgrown the current banking center, located at 706 S. Main St. in Plymouth, and the new larger location will provide more capacity for the various customer services offered for business, commercial lending and wealth advisory services.

“Opening this location in Plymouth is an important milestone in our bank’s 160-year history,” commented H. Douglas Chaffin, President and CEO, Monroe bank & Trust. Investing in the Plymouth community remains an important priority for organization, and we look forward to continuing and building on that tradition in Wayne Oakland and Washtenaw counties.”

Monroe Bank is in the process of a merger with First Merchants Bank that will be finalized early this year.
