Township officer chooses optimism after frightening diagnosis

Through the years, we at the Plymouth Voice and Associated Newspapers have always held the first responders, police and fire department members of this community close to our heart.
As the saying goes, “not all heroes wear capes” implies that some people do amazing things even though they are not fictional superheroes. One such person is a father, husband and dedicated Plymouth Township cop who last year risked his own safety to help rescue two senior citizens from a burning smoke-filled condo at Plymouth’s Bradbury Park Condominium Complex. Officer Tyler Cannon was later recognized for his heroic life-saving effort and named one of the department’s “Officers of the Year.”
Now Officer Cannon is the fight of his life.
After being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, the 35-year-old father of three underwent brain surgery June 26th to try to remove a very large tennis ball-sized tumor. He will soon have to begin chemo therapy and radiation. His wife Julie just delivered their third child, James, five weeks ago.
