Plymouth Community United Way to host Open House-Saturday

Jan. 8, 2014  PLYMOUTH EAGLE.

Enjoy hot chocolate while warming up and learn about the work the local United Way does in Plymouth, Canton and Western Wayne County this Saturday. Everyone is invited. Open House at noon to 4 p.m. at Plymouth Community United Way, 960 W. Ann Arbor Trail, Suite 2, Plymouth.

Keep the giving season going by bringing nonperishable food items or new hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and blankets for men, women and children. The PCUW Hats for the Homeless Drive is in full swing as low-income families and homeless individuals struggle to survive the cold Michigan winter.

Pick up information on volunteering for Rake-N-Go April 26 to help senior citizens and people with disabilities, or the monthly emergency food assistance program.

Serving the Plymouth, Canton and Western Wayne County area since 1944, PCUW focuses on basic needs, education and health/stability by supporting summer classes for students not achieving at grade level; food, rent and utility assistance; senior transportation; shelter and counseling for domestic violence victims and their children; programs for developmentally disabled adults; substance abuse treatment for youth; hospice; grief counseling for all ages, and other human services. Workshops on elder law and a health fair provide valuable information for senior citizens.
