Liberty Run now accepting registrations

Canton Liberty Fest is set to host the 7th annual Canton Liberty Run, which will include 5K, 10K, and 1-Mile events, in collaboration with Running Fit of Ann Arbor, on Saturday, June 16.

All races will start at the clock tower corner of Veterans Way and Civic Center Boulevard, located adjacent to the north end of the Canton Public Library parking lot. Participants are encouraged to run, walk or stroll the courses through neighbor- hood streets and the scenic Lower Rouge Trail. Race distances include a 5K race to begin at 8 a.m.; a 10K race to begin at 8:30 a.m.; and a One Mile Fun Run to begin at 10:15 a.m. 5K and 10K races will be timed with a “RFID” Timing Systems using a disposable tag attached to the runner’s bib. Race results will be posted at the race site, and following the event the official results will be posted online at www.cantonlibertyrun.com. The One Mile Fun Run will not include chip timing.

Runners and walkers participating in the Liberty Run are encouraged to be ‘Patriotic in Shades’ by wearing stars, stripes, and shades. Theme Awards will be presented in three categories and judging is scheduled to take place from 7:30 a.m. – 7:45 a.m. A portion of all entry fees will help fund recreation and trail improvements in Canton.

The following discounted race entry fees are available until noon June 14: $34 for 5K race; $39 for 10K race; $19 for One Mile Fun Run and $59 for Uncle Sam Slam, featuring 5K and 10K. Race registration fees received after noon June 14 are: $40 for the 5K run; $45 for the 10K run; $25 for the One Mile Fun Run and $70 for the Uncle Sam Slam, featuring 5K and 10K. Packet pick-up is scheduled to take place from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 15 in Heritage Park at Veteran’s Parkway and Civic Center, or race morning at 6:30 a.m. until 15 minutes before the start of the race.

After looping through neighborhood streets and the Lower Rouge River Trail, participants are encouraged to refuel after the race at the Canton Lions Club Annual Pancake Breakfast, which will take place in the Heritage Park Amphitheater from 7 – 11 a.m.; while supplies last. Breakfast will include pan- cakes, coffee, milk, juice and water for $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age. Chris Cakes of Michigan will be on hand flipping pancakes through the air onto the plates of the brave folks who dare to catch them.

The accompanying Liberty Fest festivities will begin again shortly after the start of the last race at 10 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. This community celebration, which takes June 14-16, features a wide variety of carnival rides, games and special attractions for all ages, live music and entertainment, great food, and plenty of family fun.
